Translator of the Week: Ruth Martínez

This week’s Translator of the Week is the fabulous Ruth Martínez!

We chose Ruth this week because she has been working on a large project for us that requires specialist knowledge, attention to detail, and creative flair. All of which she has in spades! She is friendly and professional, and a joy to work with. We all have nothing but good things to say about her, and appreciate her attitude and hard work.

Here’s a little about Ruth, from the lady herself:

I am originally from Spain. This is where I got my Degree in English Literature and Linguistics. I moved to Britain over ten years ago. I lived in the South of England for a couple of years and then moved to Edinburgh. This was in order to follow a Postgraduate Course in Translating, at Heriot-Watt University. I was only planning on staying there for a year, but actually got trapped by the magic of this beautiful city and have ended up not counting the years…

Languages and translation has always been my passion. One of the main things I love about my profession is that it gives you the chance of building bridges between different cultures, and we definitely need bridges nowadays. I also love being able to learn and develop my skills every day, with every project and client. I always try to offer the best quality and go the extra mile to make life easier both for my clients and myself.

Something else that translating has given me is the flexibility of working from anywhere, which actually explains why I am writing this from South America. I love travelling, and my job is not a barrier to pursuing my dreams, it has actually become an essential part of them.

On top of translating, languages and travelling, I also love cycling, gardening, going to the cinema and the theatre, reading, writing, clay sculpting (which is my main hobby at the moment). Basically, enjoying life.

Thank you for your hard work Ruth, we love working with you!
