If you or your company are looking to expand into foreign markets, these facts prove that there is certainly a market for your publication! You can be certain that if you come to a specialist translation agency, run by linguists that you are in the right place to have your publication translated into the language you require.
We have extensive experience working with:
- Business Cards
- Examples of successful transcreation in the publishing world include:
The title of Seig Larssons book ˜The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo was adapted from the original Swedish title of the book. The original translation in English would have been ‘Men that hate women. Not as effective.
In the Indian version of the comic Spider Man, Spider Man is a poor Indian boy who lives in the countryside and moves in with his aunt and uncle to Mumbai when he receives a scholarship. His powers come from a powerful Yogi.
In Asterix the druid is called Getafix in English (parody of a druids medical and magical prowess), but in French and other European languages he is called Panoramix (panoramic or wide view as he sees everything).
The characters of Harry Potter have been transcreated to make them more appealing to the French culture. The one which has been transcreated most brilliantly is that of Tom Marvolo Ryddle whose letters can be transformed into Lord Voldemort, in French becomes Jedusor, Tom Elvis thus recreating the riddle and pun in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where the character takes the letters of his new name using the letters of his given name. This is replicated in the French where the letters spell out Je suis Voldemort.
These examples emphasise the importance of getting it right first time a professional translator can translate and transcreate
Transcreation is another factor to consider when approaching the translation of your publication. What does transcreation mean? Simply put, it is the process of recreating the text in the context of your target audience. So not only are you translating the information, but also recreating it so that the images, nuances, cultural elements are expressed in the same way as in the target text. Marketing texts, advertising texts, literary texts and even work documents such as training manuals, where feelings and emotions or the source culture are more prevalent, often require a more in depth level of transcreation. It is for this reason, that we only use native speakers for your translation, as we know that they will fully understand your publication and be able to translate it and transcreate it. so that it has the same impact on your audience as the original!

- Don’t let this happen to you!
Hotel brochure mistranslation:
Getting There: Our representative will make you wait at the airport. The bus to the hotel runs along the lake shore. Soon you will feel pleasure in passing water. You will know that you are getting near the hotel, because you will go round the bend. The manager will await you in the entrance hall.
- Foreign fiction in the UK
An area which is proving very popular recently is the rise of foreign fiction in the UK. Our global community, the internet and social media are all the driving forces for the increasing popularity of this niche. The market for literary translation is growing rapidly as a result of the successes of Scandinavian authors such as crime writer Jo Nesb, Stieg Larsson author of the series ‘The Killing and Jonas Jonasson, author of ‘The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared which has been translated into 35 languages. Worth mentioning as well is the Japanese author Murukami whose books have been known to sell 1 million copies within days of being published. The translation of Japanese Manga has seen a massive rise in popularity, increasing 72% in sales in the UK since 2003. All this proves that foreign literature and literary translation is certainly big business!
- Children's Publishing
We have extensive experience working with literary material aimed at children of all ages. From non-fiction educational material, through to the latest adventures of a beloved children’s character, we work hard to source the right linguists for each project and each language required. This ensures that the informative nature or subtle magic of the text is not lost in translation, but is attuned to its target culture.
- Desktop Publishing
We can typeset your documents for you, taking care of the layout and design issues that can arise when importing a translation into a desktop publishing program. We can edit text in diagrams and images to provide you with a print-ready version of your document for publication.
Our Project Managers are trained linguists and will be more than aware of the problems you may face in design layout. A Hebrew manual for example, may need the layout completely reversed in order for it to have the same impact on its right-to-left audience as it does on your English speaking audience. This is why at Lingua Translations our DTP experts are natives in the language of your target document, to ensure that nothing goes awry during the typesetting stage and that the layout, is the most effective one for your audience.
Expert linguist project managers and native speakers working together to fulfil your publishing needs.
