Liberation Day 2017

Liberation Day in Italy is held every year on April 25. April 25th marks the anniversary of the liberation of two of the last Italian cities still under Fascist control during World War II, Milan and Turin. By then most of Italy was free and the war is about to finish. On the 28th of April Mussolini was captured and executed.

During World War II, there were various political groups and individuals who were in opposition to the Nazi and Fascist Regimes. These groups had assumed control in Italy. These groups collectively made up the Italian Resistance. On the 25th April 19475 the Committee of National Liberation High Italy declared the insurgency in all territories that were still occupied by the fascists. Thanks to the united fight of all the opponents of fascism, it was possible to defeat fascists and to lay the foundations for a democratic state.

This day is celebrated every year throughout Italy with events, concerts and demonstrations. On the streets people sing, wave flags and celebrate with joy and happiness of liberation.
