 Culinary Translation Services

Each nation has not only its own eating habits and food. As well as its own culinary terminology. The translator must be familiar with when translating texts in this field. If we think about the great difference in culinary habits between different cultures, it could be argued that this is one of the most fascinating fields of language translation that can be studied.

An example of these types of texts is a restaurant’s menu. You may think that the translation of your restaurant’s menu is a small thing bearing no significance on the company’s interests. However, it is in fact one of the most important factors. The menu will often give the customer their first impression of the restaurant. As well as the restaurants products. It should be able to attract the customer through good presentation. If not, the dishes will neither be sold nor tasted.

Picture the situation

You are in Spain and go to have lunch in a restaurant recommended to you. Then you look at the menu and find dishes like: “Cold andaluz refresh men”. Which is trying to indicate a cold tomato soup called gazpacho andaluz in Spain. Or “depressed soup” (a soup advertised on a menu in Russian). Imagine you see “Try it and try to forget it” on a menu. What would you think of its food?

The inability to provide accurate translations can make for some very unappealing menu options. Bad translation services can lead to bewilderment and amusement. Don’t forget that the customer cannot order dishes if he/she does not know what they are. The client may be given meals that they weren’t expecting. Or a customer with particular dietary needs could order something that they didn’t mean to and are not able to eat.

In the same way that you not wouldn’t choose a non-qualified, bad mannered waiter to serve your clients. It is vital that you employ quality translation services who will offer you a good menu that doesn’t damage your restaurant’s image.

Menus are vital!

Good menu translation services are necessary for keeping customers happy and allow them to make an informed decision when choosing a dish. So remember… The menus are key. A perfect production of the dishes in the kitchen is not enough if the menu does not seduce the customer. If your restaurant is proud of its food, surely you’ll want to present an international menu that has been completed by a professional translator?
